Mindful Living Rooted in Kindness at The Radloff Homestead

How The Radloff Homestead Nurtures More Than Just the Land

This was not the life Kaelin Radloff once dreamed of. It sprouted up in an afterthought when she and her husband achieved their goal of purchasing land. Letting the reality of acreage sink in, Kaelin noticed its true potential. She could not let this land go to waste. This simple act of noticing pulled her into a pivtol moment for herself, her family, and the land they live on.

In that moment, The Radloff Homestead was born.

Grounding Rituals on the Homestead

Cultivating mindfulness as if it were the flowers, fruits, and vegetables on her land, Kaelin grounds herself throughout her day. Not missing a beat, she directs her focus to the present as soon as her feet hit the floor each morning. This moment of intentional solitude allows her to slow her motions and be intentional.

In an act of kindness to their land and children, every morning she quietly acknowledges that Mother Nature controls all when it comes to the land and that her young sons provide opportunities to slow down. The pitter patter of their feet turns into the stomping of little boots as they make their way outside. With two extra set of tiny helping hands with the physical work on the land, Kaelin can see how the land shapes her family bond as much as they shape the land. Small hands digging into the soil slows Kaelin down in a way she softens into. This is a moment she prepared for while grounding when she rose before the sun in the morning.

When she realizes she is checking her to-dos off slower than anticipated, she centers her focus on the balancing act she is performing and takes a moment to ground herself once again. The most important work is not always visible, but it is felt through the warmth in their home and togetherness in the fresh air.

Anchoring herself, Kaelin often pulls up a note on her phone that she crafted years ago. Her eyes are met with goals she has accomplished and a moment of calm and pride envelopes her. Interrupting the spiral of hurried thoughts, she gleans a refreshed perspective on where she is today and how slow, intentional living brought her to this current day.

“Sometimes the rush and my work ethic gets in the way of those times that don’t go as planned. I have to remind myself to slow down and realize that I am exactly where I wanted to be.” Kaeline Radloff, The Radloff Homestead

With her boots on and dirt under her fingernails, Kaelin simmers in a deep appreciation for the land, the farmers, and agriculture. She firmly believes that everyone should experience this type of living to better understand what it’s really like.

Creativity in Cultivation

As the middle man between everyday living and Mother Nature, Kaelin has been rewarded and humbled.

Putting the business aspect aside, the homestead life in itself is not as glamorized as social media makes it out to be — though beautiful and brimming with life. Kaelin shared that she often says “where there is life, there is death.” She explained how sickness, mud, and an ongoing list of everything that needs to be repaired or tended to exists every day. With a heaping serving of things depending on her to live, her needs come last.

To ensure the wheels keep turning, her calm creativity must lead the way. How will she divide her energy and limited time to best serve the land and her family? This is where you can find Kaelin showing her sons how to remain positive, find calm, and think creatively to tackle what must be done.

Community Kindness Through Flowers And Workshops

With a belief that we all need to slow down and connect, Kaelin has created a space that allows her community to do just that. Sourdough workshops and u-pick flower events are sprinkled throughout her calendar like dandelion seeds scattered through the air.

Letting her heart lead the way, she leads these events with a strong purpose — battling the abundance of negative news that seems to follow all of us on social media and the news. She hopes attendees can set aside what may be going on in their lives and the world for even an hour. The magic of the events lies in each person being able to reconnect with themselves, the land, or someone else while in attendance.

“Our brains and hearts were never meant to withstand all that we consume via social media and the news.” Kaelin Radloff, The Radloff Homestead

At the close of each event, Kaelin walks away hopeful that attendees feel like they experienced a positive reset and a yearning to slow down, learn or connect again.

Q&A

Q: What inspired the move to your homestead, and what did you hope life would feel like on the other side of that decision?

A: My husband and I always knew we wanted land. Homesteading wasn’t exactly the plan but more of an afterthought. Once we found our property, I didn’t want the acreage to “go to waste” and that’s when I started utilizing it for more than what it was.

Q: How do you stay present in a lifestyle that requires so much planning and effort? My boys force me to take it one day at a time. I can only plan or do so much daily with them being so young. It’s a balancing act that requires daily resets. They like to help with the physical work & that slows me down in the best of ways.

Q: Do you think people are craving a return to something simpler or more grounded? Why do you think that is? In this day and age, yes. We have so much at our fingertips at any second of the day. Our brains and hearts were never meant to withstand all that we consume via social media and news. The media paints everything so negatively and to be able to step away from that for a while is a reset that everyone needs.
